occult (adj) --
beyond the range of ordinary knowledge or understanding.
In 2008, humans were comfortable in their existence. They were the dominant species on the planet, there was no other life in their solar system, so far as they knew, and everything could be explained by science. They were happy in their ignorance. But somehow, without their knowledge, other species had evolved in secret: Vampire and Lycan. They not only existed in places other than fairy tales and horror movies, they lived right next door. During what are referred to as the Dark Times, Vampire and Lycan were bitter enemies and were continually killing each other off until finally their numbers bordered on extinction and their respective leaders were forced to call an uneasy truce. Though neither species particularly got along with the other, they both had a common goal: stay alive and stay hidden.
Now, despite the occasional warring between the species and the gruesome deaths that often result, the fact remains that neither group wants to risk exposure to the humans. (And so, in the small town of Horizon, California, both a Vampire coven and Lycan pack had managed to live side-by-side without incident, hidden from prying eyes in the mountain forests. Or: And so, in New Orleans, Louisiana, home of the most magically-tolerant people in the world, both a Vampire coven and Lycan pack had managed to live side-by-side without incident, hidden in the open amongst the voodoo priests and Goth wannabes.)* However, all that changed when the city's former coven leader was violently slaughtered and the second-in-command took over. He was a crueler, more revolutionary master vampire. Where before an uneasy alliance existed between Lycan and the Vampire, the new leader has yet to make his feelings toward the Lycan pack known and the entire community is on edge, prepared for what could be a new, bloody battle between the species.
* location is dependent on the votes, so this will be fixed when we decide!

ALSO! we can't seem to decide where to set this psl, but the choices are either New Orleans or a small, fictional town called Horizon, California in the mountains above Lake Tahoe, so when you request a hold, tell us your preference as well, please! we'll let you know what we decide asap.

at this time, we will only be accepting 15 members - 6 vampire, 6 lycan and 3 humans. naturally, we expect plenty of challenging, so feel free to apply even if all the spots for your character's species are held.
